A Southern Tradition
August 7, 2008
ATLANTA (Friday, August 7, 2008) -- Concessions/Paschal’s, J.V., a partnership between Concessions International, LLC and Paschal’s Concessions, Inc., redesigned the historical Paschal’s Restaurant LaCarrousel on Concourse C at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Paschal’s Restaurant was founded in Atlanta over 50 years ago by James and Robert Paschal. It opened as a 30 seat luncheonette in 1947 and has transitioned into a landmark within Atlanta known for its hospitality and southern home cooking. Paschal’s Restaurants southern cuisine has created a local connection with over 85 million traveling passengers who have had the opportunity to experience southern fare.
Back in the 1960’s, Paschal’s was the place to be seen and to talk about the civil rights movement. Most of our influential leaders in Atlanta put their future together at Paschal’s (i.e. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson and the Rev. Joseph Lowery. It was a place where people could come and listen to music played in the LaCarrousel lounge by Aretha Franklin, Dizzie Gillespie and Ramsey Lewis.
“Concessions International has experience in identifying and bringing emerging local brands to a national stage within airports to connect traveling passengers with the region they are visiting,” said Anthony Joseph, President of Concessions International, LLC. “Visitors to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are familiar with the popularity of the local ‘Paschal’s A Southern Tradition concept’.”
The refurbishment includes wallpaper highlighting the history of Paschal’s Restaurants over the last 50 years. The wallpaper includes historical news articles, photographs of James and Robert Paschal’s and other influential leaders. In addition, it highlights jazz artists that often played within the LaCarrousel bar of Paschal’s. The restaurant also features other striking images including Carrousel horse figures at the bar, musical instruments embedded in the floor, bold garnet red tiles and an eye catching red soffit with signage noting ‘Paschal’s A Southern Tradition’.
“I have been very pleased to serve so many travelling passengers within Atlanta’s airport. Many guests have enjoyed our Southern traditional cooking and look forward to it as they come and go from near and far away. The partnership developed with Concessions International has been great because they share my passion for great service and superb food”, said James Paschal.
Some of Paschal’s specialties include: Famous Fried Chicken, Meatloaf, Pork Chops, Catfish, Country Fried Steak, Collard Greens, Yams, Black Eyed Peas, Macaroni and Cheese, and the Peach Cobbler. The menu also features Burgers, Sandwiches and Fresh Salads. The LaCarrousel bar features a variety of premium and call brands of liquor and an extensive beer menu as well.
“Paschal’s restaurants have been greatly received by our travelling passengers. We are proud to have this local concept within the airport because it truly embodies the spirit of the south with its southern menu and hospitality,” said John Cugasi, Director of Concessions at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Paschal’s Restaurant’s have three locations within the Atrium, Concourse A and Concourse C of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Atrium and Concourse A locations are quick service restaurants located within food courts. The Paschal’s Restaurant LaCarrousel is a full service dining destination and is located on Concourse C.
ABOUT PASCHAL’S CONCESSIONS, INC
Paschal’s Restaurants opened its first location over 50 years ago. This landmark was created by brothers James and Robert Paschal whose interest in history and hospitality made their southern cooking and legendary fried chicken a staple within the African American community.
Paschal’s was made famous during the civil rights movement as this was a known meeting space for the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Maynard Jackson and other entertainers, celebrities and neighborhood guests of that time.
Today, Paschal’s still maintains its ‘Southern Tradition’ by serving its Famous Fried Chicken to city leaders, government officials, tourists and celebrities. Over the past few years, they have continued to develop the brand by launching a line of products that consumers can purchase at a local grocery store.
